Nowadays we have playschools and day care centers blooming all over the city which turns out to be a blessing for mothers who work/ at-home to get a small break.
Frankly, it is difficult to keep the children occupied all the time with work at home and career tagging along. However these are the best alternatives as it induces social behavior, focus, attention-span duration, recognition of new friends etc.
There are a number of play-schools and day care in Chennai that I visited, and since I live in the Alwarpet area, it made sense to look for a place close to home. Options were
- Euro Kids
- Kidz Central
- Vruksha
- Bamboola
- Alps
- Alphabet/Fast Track Kids
- Bambino etc.
I strongly believe that looking for a good school to put your child in is a daunting task, but we must also see the distance to where it is located from home. We don’t want our kids traveling most of the time to get to school and back. A school that provides the basic amenities as well as good care is the one to opt for. There are fancy places that could convince you that it could be ideal, but before you make a decision, one must weigh all the pros and cons. All in all, you must be comfortable with the kind of environment the child is going to be in.
For me, Vruksha Montessori school on St.Mary’s road, worked out to be ideal in terms of distance, the environment and the people there. The ratio was 1:4, teacher/helper: student ratio.
Baby’s Day Out on Chamiers road is an ideal place to leave your toddlers for a couple of hours, host a birthday party etc. Vanilla Place near Nageswara Rao park is also good but the area is slightly smaller.
